These two drawings are from live model class. Our model, above, has gone numerous summers to work on fishing boats in Alaska. When she returns, one of things she does is model. I separated the head portrait from the basic body pose in the drawing below it.

These are two recent watercolors of actual sites in New Mexico. The first above is an impression of the Organ Mountains down near Las Cruces, and the bottom one is an impression of a view from the sandstone cliffs at El Mal Pais out near Grants. Mount Taylor, one of the Navajo sacred mountains is in the distance.

Here are three very recent watercolors that I did to try to take advantage of some of the beautiful scenery around here. At the most recent state watercolor meeting, I watched a friend of mine do some landscapes, and I thought I would try some of his methodology to create, with some exceptions of my own quirks.

From live drawing class: I was doing a portrait of the model and then decided, as in the next drawing to come, to add the rest of the body as a sort of after thought behind the portrait. There is more white on black to come.

This model was dressed like a witch for the occasion, even though not evidently so. To make the picture a bit more macabre, I decided to draw the body separately from the head. I think it worked out pretty well.

This is a portrait from a recent live model event.

Here are some portraits from fairly recently, actually. All from live models.

Yet one more example of some portrait work I have done over the years.

Another dose of portrait work from over the years. I believe all four of these are from my earlier years at the New Mexico Art League. I no longer patronize the NMAL since they ruined their live model program by never bringing Friday mornings back after the pandemic was over.

Some portrait work from over the years done from live models at the New Mexico Art League and the Artists’ Studio both in Albuquerque. One also done from a photo of a friend at Stone Lion Studio when it was located in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

The first photo is just to take time to update my bio by showing my wife, oldest son and me at a stopover at beautiful Clayton Lake, New Mexico, on the way home from a trip to the east coast earlier this summer.

The seond photo is a T shirt I designed way back in the day for the Dan Emmett Festival in my former hometown of Mount Vernon, Ohio. Dan wrote the song “Dixie” and hails from Mount Vernon and is also buried there. I posted it because I had sent this photo to an old artist friend of mine in Lancaster, Ohio, who sent me a photo of a similar “old timer at a festival” painting he had done recently on commission for some town in Ohio.

This painting is called: “Road to Wuhan # 2” done in 2017 and is soon to be gifted to a friend.
