"Portrait of a Chinese Painter" by Ed Hayes. Oil on canvas. (December, 2013). This painting is not meant to portray any artist, in particular, rather a more generic rendition of a contemporary Chinese painter.
The following two paintings are water media. The first is called: "Field & Mountains" and the second is called: "Treeline". They were executed in early November, 2013.
The painting below is entitled: "Naß im Dorfe" which means "Wet in the Village" in German. German is the other foreign language (besides Chinese) that I actively try to keep up. This is an acrylic painting. It was painted in April/May of 2011.
"Cliff Dwelling" by Ed Hayes. Oil on canvas. (December, 2013)
"Tom and Uluru" by Ed Hayes. Acrylic on canvas (Mid 2000s). This is the fourth painting that will be in the show up in Loudonville, OH, in January. It is from a photo of son Tom in front of Ayers Rock, Australia.
This recent painting depicts a spacious painting studio. It is rather roughly done to indicate that painting studios can be so.

Artist Statement – Ed Hayes
I have been painting and showing my work in the central Ohio area for over 20 years. My favorite media are oil and acrylic, but have done work in colored pencil, conté crayon, watercolor, casein, oil pastels and oil sticks. I do a variety of subject matter, but am particularly fond of portraits. My studio is called “Stone Lion Studio” located in Mount Vernon, and I maintain a Facebook page entitled: “Ed Hayes” referencing my two alma maters, Ohio State and Indiana Universities. I also recently started a blog on “Blogger” called: “Stone Lion Studio”.
My other passion is foreign language and I have taught Mandarin Chinese at Kenyon College, Mount Vernon High School and the Mount Vernon Career Center. I sometimes try to incorporate my knowledge of Chinese into my paintings, or at least paint subject matter from prior trips there.
The other area of recent interest, and probable for “Winterfest” in Loudonville, will be oil paintings of animal portraits from extensive travels my wife and I took out west this year. We surely live in a beautiful country.
"Gray Wolf" by Ed Hayes. Oil and acrylic on canvas. (November, 2013)
